ABOUT APPIC DUES & FEES
APPIC members are doctoral-level training programs (i.e., internships and postdoctoral fellowships) in health service psychology. APPIC members pay membership dues to gain access to APPIC products and services.
APPIC membership confers crucial benefits for training programs in health service psychology, with the organization offering essential resources to support quality education and training at the internship and postdoctoral levels. Membership dues and fees support the organizational infrastructure necessary for routine functioning (e.g., APPIC Central Office administrative functions and staff), as well as APPIC products and services that benefit programs and students. Examples include the APPIC Directory, the Universal Psychology Postdoctoral Directory (UPPD), the APPIC Match (Phase I and Phase II) and Post-Match Vacancy Service (PMVS), initiatives to support postdoctoral training and selection, a centralized application for internships (AAPI) and for postdoctoral fellowships (APPA), the biennial APPIC Membership Conference, APPIC Community Calls, the APPIC Newsletter, the Informal Problem Consultation service, Training and Education in Professional Psychology (TEPP), and training resources and guidelines, among others. APPIC is also an engaged partner with Training Councils and other professional associations that intersect with health service psychology training. APPIC member dues and fees are essential to the execution of APPIC’s mission, and the APPIC Board of Directors takes care to ensure that dues and fees are invested in activities that support member benefits.
Doctoral Program Associates (DPAs) are doctoral-level graduate programs in health service psychology that meet APPIC eligibility criteria and seek to place their students in APPIC-member internship programs through the APPIC Match and/or Post-Match Vacancy Service. DPAs pay a DPA fee to gain access to APPIC products and services.
APPIC member programs and DPAs are billed annually for membership dues/fees, and the membership year coincides with the calendar year. Payment covers January 1 through December 31. Dues/fees are non-refundable, even in the event of mid-year termination of membership or DPA status. Payment of dues is a condition of membership/DPA status.
Dues for internship programs are required to be paid in full and are not refundable or reduced should an internship program elect not to participate in the APPIC Match. DPA fees are also required to be paid in full to maintain DPA status regardless of whether students will register for the Match.

Additional information about each dues/fee type may be found below:
Internship Membership Dues ($1025) - Membership dues for a single doctoral internship program in health service psychology that has been reviewed by the APPIC Internship Membership Committee and voted for admittance to membership by the APPIC Board of Directors. This dues rate includes access to the APPIC Match for eligible internship programs and/or access to the Post-Match Vacancy Service.
Postdoctoral Membership Dues ($550) - Membership dues for a single psychology postdoctoral fellowship program that has been reviewed by the APPIC Postdoctoral Membership Committee and voted for admittance to membership by the APPIC Board of Directors.
Doctoral Program Associate Fee (Level 1 - $825, Level 2 - $1225, or Level 3 - $1625) - Annual fee for doctoral programs who wish to associate with APPIC and place doctoral students in APPIC-member internship programs. DPA levels are assessed by APPIC Central Office based upon the number of students the program has typically registered for the APPIC Match [i.e., Level 1 (0-10 students), Level 2 (11-50 students), Level 3 (51+ students)].
Late Payment Fee ($150) - Late payment penalty for dues/fees not received by the required deadline. Internship and postdoctoral membership dues are due by April 1 of each year. Doctoral Program Associate fees are due by May 1 of each year.
New Member Application Fee ($600) - Prospective member programs are required to pay the new member application fee, regardless of accreditation status, for consideration for APPIC membership. Membership application fees are non-refundable and not contingent on application review outcome.
Unaccredited Program Three-Year Review Fee ($450) - APPIC internship and postdoctoral members who are not yet accredited by the American Psychological Association or the Canadian Psychological Association must undergo review every three years to ensure continued adherence to APPIC membership criteria. The three-year review fee supports this process and is non-refundable. Membership renewal is contingent upon successful completion of the three-year review and review fee payment.
Student Match Registration Fee ($160) - Fee for eligible students to enter the APPIC Match, paid directly to National Matching Services (NMS).
Rationale for 2026 APPIC Dues & Fee Changes
Beginning in 2026, APPIC membership dues will increase across membership types. This is the first dues adjustment since 2011, and the decision was made after careful consideration of APPIC’s financial landscape and long-term organizational well-being. Over the past 14 years, APPIC has absorbed increases in rising business costs and inflation rather than passing them along to member programs. APPIC is now in a position where it is necessary to increase dues and fees to address rising operational costs, modernize technology, and strengthen the infrastructure of the organization to best serve our members. Substantial improvements in APPIC’s technology and personnel infrastructure are not merely opportunities to improve member services but represent critical areas of organizational need. These dues/fee changes are being enacted to enable continued execution of APPIC’s mission and, ultimately, to better support the training community through the development of improved products and services.
In addition to increasing prices across membership types, APPIC plans to enact several structural changes to its dues/fee schedule. These changes, summarized below, are being made to better align the dues/fee structure with the function of the organization and typical organizational practices, as well as to increase operational efficiency.
Overview of Planned Changes to APPIC Dues/Fee Structure
1. A separate internship Match fee will no longer be assessed. Internship programs will simply pay APPIC membership dues, which will include access to the Match for eligible programs.
2. For internships that are only eligible for the Post-Match Vacancy Service (PMVS), a separate PMVS-Only fee will no longer be assessed. PMVS-Only internship programs will simply pay APPIC membership dues, which will include their access to the PMVS.
3. DPAs will pay a single DPA fee instead of a separate DPA fee and DPA Match fee. The DPA fee will still occur by three levels (i.e., Level 1, 2, and 3) corresponding to the number of students the program typically sends into the APPIC Match, with different prices by level.
4. “Combined Programs” will be discontinued (i.e., the practice of issuing a single “combined” invoice with a dues discount for internship and postdoctoral fellowship programs that reside in the same institution). APPIC-member programs will all pay their own separate dues.
5. “Additional Postdoc Programs” will be discontinued (i.e., the practice of issuing a single invoice with a dues discount for multiple postdoctoral fellowship programs that reside in the same institution). APPIC-member programs will all pay their own separate dues.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About 2026 APPIC Dues & Fee Changes
1. Why are APPIC dues/fees increasing in 2026?
APPIC membership dues have not increased since 2011. Over the past 14 years, APPIC has absorbed increases in rising business costs and inflation, rather than passing them along to member programs. APPIC is now in a position where it is necessary to increase dues and fees to address rising operational costs, modernize technology, and strengthen overall infrastructure to ensure long-term association health and increase benefits to member programs and students. Many members may recall the significant technology challenges that APPIC experienced this year, including a prolonged outage of the APPIC Directory and eMembership platform, as well as a prolonged outage of the APPIC website during a key period in internship and postdoc selection. As the organization has grown and as its technology has aged, it has become apparent that substantial improvements in APPIC’s infrastructure are key areas of organizational need. As we seek to address core functionality, APPIC is also aware that its products are in need of modernization and redesign to improve the user experience. Therefore, these dues changes are being enacted to enable continued execution of APPIC’s mission and, ultimately, to better support the training community through the development of improved products and services.
2. What are APPIC dues and fees used for?
APPIC membership confers crucial benefits for training programs in health service psychology, and the organization offers essential resources to support quality education and training. Membership dues and fees support the organizational infrastructure necessary for routine functioning (e.g., APPIC Central Office administrative functions and staff), as well as APPIC products and services that benefit programs and students. Examples include the APPIC Directory, the Universal Psychology Postdoctoral Directory (UPPD), the APPIC Match (Phase I and Phase II) and Post-Match Vacancy Service (PMVS), initiatives to support postdoctoral training and selection, a centralized application for internships (AAPI) and for postdoctoral fellowships (APPA), the biannual APPIC Membership Conference, APPIC Community Calls, the APPIC Newsletter, the Informal Problem Consultation service, Training and Education in Professional Psychology (TEPP), and training resources and guidelines, among others. APPIC also is an engaged partner with Training Councils and other professional associations that intersect with health service psychology training. APPIC member dues and fees are essential to the execution of APPIC’s mission, and the APPIC Board of Directors takes care to ensure that dues and fees are invested in activities that support member benefits.
3. Why are postdoctoral programs and internship programs no longer the same dues cost?
APPIC engaged in a careful review of the dues and fee structure and considered cost relative to services offered. There are some APPIC services, such as the APPIC Match, that are not relevant to postdoctoral programs. Thus, there is a price differential for internship versus postdoctoral programs.
4. As an internship program training director, why am I no longer paying a separate dues and Match fee?
APPIC previously billed for separate services within membership dues, which was an artifact rooted in the historical evolution of APPIC offerings. We are now combining fees into one flat dues rate such that dues now bundle all services instead of assessing separate fees for different services. APPIC members will continue to receive the many benefits of being an APPIC member, while also experiencing simplification of billing and payment. This also aligns APPIC’s invoicing practices with those of other professional organizations.
5. My program will not be participating in this year’s APPIC Internship Match. Do I still need to pay the APPIC membership dues?
Payment of APPIC member dues is required to maintain membership for all APPIC member programs. APPIC member programs who are eligible to participate in the APPIC Match may elect not to participate in the Match, provided that they are not recruiting in an alternative manner outside of the Match. APPIC dues do not change based on a program's decision about Match participation. If a program has interns on-site for any part of the year, it is important to maintain APPIC membership to ensure that the student can endorse having completed an APPIC-member training program. APPIC membership dues are still required to be paid in full regardless of participation in the Match.
6. My internship program is only eligible for the Post-Match Vacancy Service, not the APPIC Match. How will that work?
Eligibility criteria for participation in the APPIC Match will continue to be assessed in accordance with current practice. The changes to APPIC dues and fees do not impact Match eligibility. If an APPIC-member internship program is not eligible for the APPIC Match but is eligible for the Post-Match Vacancy Service (PMVS), they are still expected to pay dues to maintain membership, and that dues payment allows their access to the PMVS.
7. I am a Director of Clinical Training (DCT) of a doctoral program. How do I know which Doctoral Program Associate (DPA) level my program has been assigned?
In 2022, the APPIC board made the determination that doctoral program Match fees would be based on the number of students who registered for the Match, as students from larger doctoral programs use a proportionally larger amount of APPIC and NMS resources than programs with fewer students in the Match. The DPA levels are as follows:
DPA Level 1: 0-10 students registered for the Match
DPA Level 2: 11-50 students registered for the Match
DPA Level 3: 51+ students registered for the Match
APPIC has noted that the number of students entering the match from individual doctoral programs, and therefore the corresponding DPA levels, have been quite stable since implementation. Few programs have annual variation in their DPA level. Effective in 2026, APPIC will assign programs a level based on the modal DPA level of the program over the past three years. The DPA level will be reassessed periodically for accuracy, and APPIC will offer a mechanism for DPAs to inquire about reassessment of level if there is a large shift in census of the program.
8. My site has both an internship and postdoctoral program that are “Combined.” I previously received a small discount for having both programs. Will that still occur?
APPIC membership is conferred at the level of an individual training program, membership decisions and record-keeping occur at the program level, and all member benefits are conferred at the program level, not the institutional level. In 2026, APPIC will discontinue applying a discount for member programs that reside in the same institution, which was formerly referred to as “Combined Programs.” There is no decrease in APPIC resources or membership benefits per program despite the existence of other programs within the same system.
9. My site has multiple postdoctoral programs and previously paid a small fee for “Additional Postdoc Programs.” How will this work now?
As described above, APPIC membership occurs at the level of an individual training program, and the benefits of membership occur at the program level, not the institutional level. In 2026, APPIC will discontinue applying a discount for member programs that reside in the same institution, eliminating both “Combined Programs” and “Additional Postdoc Programs.” The number of programs who have been utilizing the “Additional Postdoc Programs” option is very small (i.e., n=8). Appreciating that these programs would face a significant increase in cost, APPIC will reach out to those eight program constellations to offer the opportunity to merge into a single postdoctoral program as a cost-saving option, should they wish
10. Is APPIC going to increase fees for students?
The Match registration fee for students is increasing from $130 to $160, effective with the 2026 Match that begins this Fall. This fee has not been increased since 2010, at which point it changed from $120 to $130.
